Does Your Roof Need Repair or A Replacement?
Your roof is what keeps you and your family safe and protected. The security of your
home is dependent on a sturdy roof that keeps outside elements from entering and
causing devastation to the house. Many factors can affect a roof's durability, and
varying forms of roofing damage call for different solutions. It can be hard to tell the
proper step to take when fixing problems with your roof. We’ve highlighted a few
differences between when a roof needs repair and when it’s time to have it replaced.

Repair
If your home has water stains running across ceilings or walls, it most likely has a leak.
In order to determine how bad of a leak it is, you’ll need to track down where it’s coming
from. The easiest way to do this is to search your home’s attic for stains, black marks or
mold. If this isn’t possible, go outside and look for any hindrances that could penetrate
the roof.
If you have a leaky roof, it’s in your best interest to fix it as soon as possible. Even if it
isn’t severely damaging your home or in need of immediate repair, it should still be
addressed before it leads to further problems or damage.
Minimal wind damage is another factor of your roof that can be cleared up with a repair.
Loose or missing shingles are standard and are easy to fix problems that don’t require
any long term work or replacement. If your home is missing shingles or the material is
loose, call us to repair it.
Replace
Sometimes, the damage caused to a roof is unfixable. This can be because of
inclement weather or deterioration over time. It can be hard to tell when it’s time for roof
replacement, but here are a few things to look out for on your roof.
If you have a shingle roof, you should have it replaced about every 20 years. The edges
of these roofs begin to curl up after time. This is a sign that it’s time to have them
replaced. Another factor that can lead to home damage is limbs dragging across the
roofs. We’re no stranger to rough winds and rain on the Gulf Coast. This inclement
weather can cause limbs and branches from nearby trees to scratch the roof and wear
them down. This can tarnish all roof types, but shingle roofs are the most susceptible to
ruin.
A change in the aesthetics of the outside of your home is another reason to have your
roof replaced. Homes that are going to be remodeled may need a roofing upgrade along
with their new look. If your home's outward appearance is being drastically remodeled,
the roof will likely need to be replaced to accompany the change. Any major
construction work done to the home during remodeling may also call for a roof
replacement as well.
At Custom Construction Services, we want you to feel safe and comfortable in your
home. Leaks, deterioration, weather damage, and loose roofing are all problems that
need to be addressed before further damage is caused, like mold and termite invasion.
