How to Prep for Hurricane Season
Updated: Jun 15, 2021
Hurricane season is right around the corner, and we hope your home is ready. We want your home to be as safe and secure as possible during these next few months. We’ve put together a list of precautions you can take to ensure your house is prepared for inclimate weather. Take a look below to see what you can do to help protect your home during hurricane season!
Check for leaks
Be sure to inspect doors, windows, walls and all other parts of the house that could cause leaks. This includes areas where pipes and cables enter your house where water could infiltrate and come inside. If you discover any exposures, it’s best to get them fixed before a hurricane or tropical storm hits.
Ensure exterior doors are secure
If your garage or exterior doors are older, it may be time for an upgrade. Doors with three hinges and a deadbolt are the safest option as well as garage doors with weather and force stability. If wind enters your home through either of these areas, it could lead to further damage to your home.
Protect windows with shutters
Exterior shutters do more for your house than just add style. They can add an extra layer of protection to your home by shielding your windows from damage. If your windows aren’t secure, consider adding exterior shutters to keep your house safeguarded.
If you live on the coast or any other area that is susceptible to hurricanes and tropical storms, we suggest taking these steps into account when preparing your home for hurricane season.
